The overlooked cause of high blood pressure that could be cured in 20 minutes
How can I help lower my blood pressure?
Most people with high blood pressure take medicines to lower it, sometimes needing several different kinds. But lifestyle changes can also help. These include:
- Losing weight
- Increasing activity levels – regardless of whether it causes weight loss.
- A specific kind of exercise called isometric strength training involves holding a strenuous position for as long as possible. One example is the “plank”, where you hold yourself above the ground, resting on your toes and forearms.
- Lowering the amount of salt in your diet. Food will seem more bland at first, but tastes generally adjust over days and weeks.
- Raising your potassium intake can also help, probably because it causes sodium – the harmful part of salt – to be lost in urine. Most “heart-healthy” salts replace some of the sodium with potassium.
